We are looking for new foster carers and fostering families who are looking to transfer.

We are looking for Foster Carers who can give Children and Young People a loving family home, make them feel welcome and support them in reaching their potential.

We look for foster carers from all walks of life. You need to have a good sense of humour be kind, caring, supportive. We look for people who are interested in children, committed and who can work well with others.

To foster you have to be over 21 years old,

Panel Members wanted 

Abacus Fostering is looking for Panel Members to join our panel team.

We are looking for Social Workers with 3 yrs post qualifying experience, Teachers, Health Professionals, Foster Carers or someone with personal experience of being Looked After.

Panel has a role in recommending approval for new foster carers and continued approval of existing foster carers and in some cases looking at any complaints the service may receive.

Our Panels are held on a Monday evening and occasionally on a Saturday, you will not be required to attend all of the panels we hold. There is a rota for the year whereby people agree what dates they can attend.

You need to be good at listening and have good communication skills along with the ability to make an assessment based on the written and oral information presented to the panel in order to discuss and make informed recommendations.

Applicants will receive panel paperwork electronically so should have secure access to a computer. You will be required to attend the office based in Birmingham for the Panel meeting or attend via Microsoft Teams Meeting.

Abacus fostering will undertake all checks and references on successful candidates.

Supervising Social Workers 

Main tasks and role

Abacus Fostering is a small fostering agency based in Birmingham. We have a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and reliable Social Worker to join our team on a temporary 12-month contract to cover maternity leave starting at the end of March.

Our agency is small and dynamic, we are looking to recruit someone who is happy in a multi-functional role.

Our company strives to deliver quality placements for children throughout the Midlands. The ethos of Abacus fostering is keeping children at the heart of what we do. We provide quality training, support and supervision to our foster families who are an integral part of the team.

You will need;

A Qualification in Social Work essential

To provide regular support and supervision to foster carers in line with agency procedures.

To take part in recruitment events activities and open days and evenings, to promote the work of the service and recruit potential foster carers

Carry out initial home visits and assessments of potential foster carers and support the carers throughout the application process and at all relevant agency and third party meetings.

Contribute and lead carer support group meetings on a regular basis and be part of agency planning and development of agency services.

Undertake office duty, placement searches and matching, respond to any crisis when needed.

Identify training needs of foster carers and deliver training where required.

Attend the fostering panel when required.

Ensure that each carer accepts, understands and operates within all policies and procedures of the service.

Participate in the out of hours duty service on a weekly rota.

Participate in staff supervision and take responsibility for own professional development.

To be familiar with and comply with all Abacus fostering policies and procedures.

Keep abreast of developing professional best practice.

Work with other organisations, including in the voluntary sector, to achieve joint objectives and provide complementary services.

Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines.

Ensure individual and company compliance with the prevailing Fostering Services Regulations and Fostering Services National Minimum Standards.
